The old Montreal, historical district of Montreal was for a very long time the economic heart of Canada with amongst other things his banks of the St-James street and warehouses along the St.-Lawrence river. The Old Montreal was formerly surrounded by fortifications which for a long time limited the expansion of the city and supported the expansion of the suburbs.
Since ten years the district saw a true revitalisation and saw inhabitants returning in a district forgot by businesses and store a century ago and by banks and offices after, to move into the new Montreal Down Town near Ste Catherine and Dorchester. Now luxury apartments and hotel have took place where we use to see old abandoned warehouse and vanished store. This historical part of the city is located in the huge arrondissement Ville-Marie .
