The city of Anjou became a borough of Montreal in 2002, along with several other towns on the Montreal island as the municipal mergers imposed by the Government of Quebec.
Anjou borough is bounded on the east and north by the Rivière-des-Prairies, Mercier to the south while the west is bordering Saint-Léonard. It was by separating from St. Leonard of Port Maurice that the city was formed in 1956. A feature of this district is its huge industrial area which is very important in the economy of Montreal.
