The boroughs of Saint Leonard and Anjou were merged with the city of Montreal in 2002, along with a dozen of former cities. Unlike some other, they did not separate after the referendum on “de-merge” cities.
Located in the east of the island along Highway 40 these two ancient cities known a fast development during the 60‘s. This period of development is very visible by the regular alignment of identical duplex unique to these districts. More recently these two former cities have experienced a construction boom in the category of high rise condominium buildings. Over a dozen of these towers have emerged from ground past years.
St. Leonard has a church built in the early century showing an occupation by the old parish of St. Leonard of Port Maurice.
