Town of Mount Royal short history
Town of Mount Royal is a good example of planned city. It was completely designed by the Canadian Northern Railway after the opening of the railroad across the mountains. The company has created a garden city within minutes by train from downtown. It was in 1911 that Shaw and Décary purchases for CNR, in one day necessary land for the preparation of the town. It took only one year (1912) for the city to be officially incorporated. The new city remained several decades a peaceful and sparsely populated city. It was after World War II that a real property development began.
Town of Mount Royal was merged with Montreal in 2002 and then in 2006 separate after a referendum.
