Exhibition of pictures about Montreal

Art Deco building in Montreal

Art Deco style was architectural mainstream style in Western countries from 1920 to 1940. This style was associated with prosperity after world war one in cities such as Miami, Washington New York…and Montreal!

Montreal like sisters cities in North-America did not escape this architectural wave which stokes many fields like architecture, furniture and decoration. In Montreal this style was particularly used in the public buildings effort built during the great depression in order to put at work Montreal citizens.

Several public buildings, stores and offices were built in this spirit in Montreal. Unfortunately several were demolish to leave place for larger skyscraper.

Architect Ernest Cormier, one of the masters of this style in Canada drew plan of his masterpiece and also one of the most beautiful examples of the Art Deco style Canada: Université de Montreal, an enormous building built during almost 12 years.

Thus, here is a virtual exposure about Art Deco buildings of Montreal. This list is not including every Art Deco building… but almost.
